The Winona County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council was established by the Winona County Board of Commissioners in 2007. The CJCC is inclusive of all stakeholders in the Winona County criminal justice system, including policy-making representatives from the State, County, City, Private Bar and Community and has employed a collaborative approach in identifying and addressing justice-related issues to accomplish its vision: “to assure a criminal justice system that is fair and just, that provides for the public’s safety, offers real opportunities for individuals to change the direction of their lives through rehabilitation, and makes the best use of the public’s funds.”
The CJCC Council meets monthly to review, discuss and approve the work of its five committees: Courts Committee; Community Outreach and Diversity Committee; Jail and Jail Alternatives Committee; Data Information Committee and Crime Prevention Committee. The Data Information Committee works exclusively and on an ongoing basis gathering and analyzing data to support the CJCC decision-making processes. The remaining four committees, through established workgroups, are charged with distinctive tasks to achieve goals supporting the overall mission.
